Bantama: before and after

Bantama Primary School - BeforeSt. Anthony's Primary and Junior Secondary School, Bantama, Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana is a success story beyond that of mere construction. It is a result of co-operation between the school and parish commuity at Bantama, Aidlink and the Ghanain government. The story continues today...

The primary school at Bantama was a clay small building with a tin roof. Classrooms were overcrowded and too hot! The local parish began building a new primary school building and sucessfully completed the first floor. The foundations could support a three storey builing and the completed first floor had the iron rods secured and ready for building the second floor. The Province of Ghana approached Aidlink for support to complete the building so each class in the primary school would have their own classroom.

Together with support from Irish Aid the Primary School building was completed as planned and equiped with furniture and learning materials. The primary school saw stides in the quaility of education and this did not go unnoticed.

Bantama Primary School - AfterThe government of Ghana reflected the investment in the primary school by funding a three storey building for the ajoining Junior Secondary School. The project does not end there!

Today a thrid building is under construction and the first floor is complete. Upon completion each class in St. Anthony's Primary and Junior Secondary School will have their own classroom. The building will also hold a computer room - the first for the school and a library.

The construction of St. Anthony's Primary and Junior Secondary School is a result of continued co-operation between partners: the parish and school community at Bantama, Aidlink and our supporters and the Ghanaian government.
